Themes are one way to streamline things and reduce the overwhelm.
1. Block off open time in your schedule for doing tasks.
2. Do a brain dump and look for ways to categorize tasks. These become your themes.
3. Assign a theme to each day.
4. As tasks come up, write them down and assign them to their day according to themes.
Advantages:
1. List of tasks for the day is simpler.
2. Brain is already primed. If you know the night before that tomorrow is writing day, you’re already beginning to mentally prepare.
3. Helps with procrastination – if it doesn’t get done today, you have to wait a whole week for the next theme day.
4. Helps you set limits with others.
Troubleshooting
1. Conflict (e.g. appointment) – Switch the theme day that week.
2. Too many tasks on one day – Have the theme extend over two days or break the theme down further.
3. Tiring – Think about what times of day you have more or less energy and what times of the week.
